SUNDAY, 11 September, 2016:

I'm leaving on Monday for another look at Germany. I am to fly to Frankfurt on "WOW Airlines" (really!) via Iceland, arriving on Tuesday. The air fare is very cheap, but it's absolutely non-refundable under any circumstances. And I've arranged a complicated series of airbnb lodgings in EIGHT different cities, which I'll travel around to by train. I've been pretty excited. 

EXCEPT!

A few days before departure, my LEFT BIG TOE swelled up at the bottom of the nail, and started to hurt! Oh no! Isn't it the way, for heaven's sakes! I NEED that toe, for walking around!

We were staying over in Maryland, so Mrs. Slade urged that I go to the emergency care place. The doctor there squeezed the swollen part very hard, and I cried out in pain. He said that meant that it was an infection and he prescribed antibiotic pills, and now it's getting better.
